Sebago Lake Region
Sebago Lake, meaning great stretch of water in the language of the Native
Americans, is eight miles wide and eleven miles long. It is the second largest
lake in Maine and the third largest in New England. Because of its exceptional
clarity, purity and abundance, Sebago Lake water feeds the nearby city of
Portland, which is about 30 miles to the southeast. The major towns in this
region include Windham, Raymond, Casco, Sebago, Naples, Frye Island and
Bridgton. Recreation in the Sebago Lake area revolves around outdoor activities,
with boating, fishing and swimming heading the list. This region is also located
in Cumberland County.
